So I’ve had this burning desire to figure this out. If you find yourself in a vehicle completely submerged underwater, what is the correct way to get out without injuring yourself? And is there a difference from doing it in a car or a truck? How would the pressure of the water effect this?

if you want to find out drive into a lake.

you need to open the door and push as hard as you can. thats the only thing you can really do.

Dan

Remain calm, don’t panic, hold your breath. Try opening the door with your remote keyless entry on the keychain, or at least get it unlocked. If that doesn’t work you have to manually get the door or the window open as fast as possible and swim away from the vehicle.

i would think you unbuckle your seat belt and roll down the window and get out through the window because under water, it would be hard to open the door with the weight of the water around it.

logically, the truck would probably sink faster than the car because it’s heavier.

JoBlo

Wait until the car completely fills with water (this will make it easier to break the window because of the equal pressure), then try opening the door. If it doesnt get a sharp object such as a pen and break the window, and swim out.
Same for cars and trucks.

As the car sinks, roll down the window and let the car fill up with water. At the last moment you have space, take a deep breath open the door (the water pressure should be equal by then, climb out and swim to surface.

if your in an electric kind, there is supose to be a weak point in or near one of the corners. I watched a what would you do if… kind of show where I seen that, but I dont remember where at your supose to kick or hammer at.

this actually happened to me…I was in a pickup and i had power windows so they wouldnt roll down.so i put my elbow through the back window before the truck was full of water and swam up also i was highly intoxicated at the time

If you have manual windows, try rolling them down. If they are stuck or if you have power windows, try finding something to break the windows with, or kick out the window. Personally, I wouldn’t be much concerned about injuries sustained while escaping from a submerged vehicle. I’d just want to get out alive, along with anyone else who would happen to be in the vehicle at the time.

Dont panic. Then wind the window down and swim out.Winder dont work? Sit there in the vehicle until it fills with water to balance the water and air pressure (equalises) then open the door and swim out.
If I was in a truck Id look for something to smash the window.
