Tech asked:

how could i control an underwater rov with thrusters, lights, camera and power, and put it into the one controller and use an umbilical cord (really long cord) to connect to the rov itself.

thanks

You don’t actually need the umbilical cord. You can buy a radio remote-controlled submarine kit at

If you really want to tether it with an umbilical cord, you can use a 3 wire cable. Send the pulse signal from a good quality multichannel RC transmitter down 1 wire, the voltage supply down the second, and use the third for the return. The buddy output on the back of the transmitter will provide the pulse signal, and if you take the crystal out the transmitter final stage will not operate. You might have some fun building the receiver in the model.

radio doesn’t work underwater, so the umbilical is the only answer.

Many real-life subs control their torpedos via a long umbilical that stretches for miles.

If the sub has it’s own power, you need a two wire cable (signal and return) and you can encode various signals on that one wire by various techniques, just as a USB cable can control many instruments.
